Chain and sprockets wear together. That's why we replace them as a set: everything runs smoothly again and your new chain lasts longer.
When does your chain kit need replacing?
- You need to adjust the chain more and more often.
- The chain has stiff links or rust that won't go away.
- The teeth of the rear sprocket are pointed or worn crooked (hooked teeth).
- You hear the chain rattle or feel jerks when you open or close the throttle.
- At the back of the sprocket you can pull the chain away from the teeth quite a bit.
Why as a set?
A new chain on worn sprockets, or the other way round, wears much faster. By replacing the chain, front sprocket and rear sprocket together, they fit each other well and you get the most kilometres out of your set.
Tip: lube and adjust
A clean, well-lubricated chain with the right slack lasts longest. Lube it regularly, especially after a ride in the rain, and check the tension according to your motorcycle's owner's manual.
