Chain rattling or slapping?
A chain that rattles, slaps or jerks when you open the throttle is usually too slack, dry or worn. Check the slack as described in your manual and lubricate the chain. If it keeps needing adjustment or the sprockets are pointed, you need a new chain and sprocket set. We do that on quotation.
What are possible causes?
- The chain is too slack and needs adjusting.
- The chain is stretched: you need to adjust it more and more often.
- There are stiff links from rust or too little lubrication.
- The sprockets are worn: hooked teeth on the rear sprocket.
What can you do yourself?
Check the chain slack according to your owner's manual and lube the chain. If it keeps rattling, or you have to keep adjusting it, the kit is probably worn out.
What do we do?
We check the chain and sprockets and replace them as a set when needed. Replacing a chain kit is priced on quotation, depending on your motorcycle.
